I live in the heart of the South Dakota Badlands. My great-grandfather homesteaded in Rapid Valley in 1880 and I am a 4th generation resident of Pennington County.
Imlay was layed out and platted by the railroad in the early 1900's. It is in eastern Pennington Co, on east Hi-Way 44, about 20 miles from the Jackson Co line.
Our family built the structure known as the creston dinosaur.
I have served in he South Dakota legislature and am enjoying continued service to my fellow citizens.

Memories of my early years are of joyous discovery in the beautiful Badlands where I have returned to live again at Imlay - as its only resident.
Science and public policy have been life-long passions of mine.
I was born in the New Underwood hospital where my mother was a nurse . I spent my youth between Creston and Imlay South Dakota, both now ghost towns which are located east of Rapid City on highway 44.
Because of my mother's illness, I was raised from age two and a half till 13 by my grandmother who was store owner, post mistress and school teacher at Imlay. I attended the little one room school at Imlay through the eighth grade.![]()

I am a graduate of Rapid City High School. I attended Ben Lomond High School, Ogden, Utah my 10th grade year.
I then attended one year Sacramento State College, Sacramento California then returned again to western South Dakota where I attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for three years as a special student - emphasis - biology.
I was married for 27 years and raised two daughters.
The older, Rebecca, is a School of Mines graduate as a metallurgical engineer and is a corrosion specialist for bp in Chicago.
My younger daughter, Lorena, also lives in Chicago, has a degree in English from the University of Maryland and is mother of my young granddaughter, Reiko.
My grandson, Levi, is account manager for a medical supply co in Denver Co.
